With all our floors, you have the option of going for a 22mm thickness which is suitable for laying directly over joists or for use as a sports floor. You may have every confidence that this floor will provide a sound and solid structure. The creme de la creme of this is the 1 strip 22mm with a 6mm face. We use a solid hevea core as opposed to a plywood core (as is used by some other floor manufacturers). The reason we do this is that, in our opinion, softwood is not really a suitable core for the 6mm face. Our solid cross laminated hardwood core allows expansion and hence moves together in harmony with the face layer. Plywood on the other hand is very inert, and so if the face picks up or loses moisture this can cause distortions and cracks in the floor. This normally happens when the face is above a certain thickness.
